Kaunas M.K. Concert

Our design concept was driven by the desire for large unimpeded public plaza spaces sheltered by the cantilevered design. The form itself was conceived from the sculpting of these public spaces at the ground level from the building forms within the Old Town. M.K Ciurlionis’s The Past was used as a reference to generate the angled form that encompasses the public spaces below.

The structure acts as a monumental marker on the Neman river, dynamic from all angles but grounded in its solidity. The overarching solid form is deliberately peeled away at the ground to expose a dynamic and vibrant public space within. This provides a portal that overlooks the river and across to Science Island. Large cuts are integrated within the facades, opening distant vistas back across to the Old Town of Kaunas.
